2012 San Francisco Flower & Garden Show This Weekend!

Yep folks, it's officially SPRING, and some of us lazy ass gardener types need some motivation. So I'm going to check out the San Francisco Flower & Garden Show on Sunday (The last day of the show : o hopefully score some happy plants at the end of the day when they don't want to pack it up) and then probably grab some dinner someplace yummy afterwards.

It sounds like a great Time!  Experience 20 stunning Gardens for a Green Earth with daring and inspiring designs,Encounter fragrant flowers and creative floral arrangements by California Garden Clubs, Enjoy all new cooking demonstrations from a parade of celebrity chefs, including Greens’ Annie Somerville and Martin Yan, Shop all day for flowers, rare plants, orchids and items from over 200 green exhibitors. Learn from the experts with five days of edible gardening, design and horticultural workshops—featuring “Yard Crashers”, Ahmad Hassan, Cultivate your green thumb at the edible gardening displays and seminars. Hints galore and recipes provided for your harvest. Hell'z yea i need some pointers on growing in the salty windy little sea side town of Pacifica, CA.

This show has been running a very long time. In the 1950s the largest flower show in the country was in Oakland, bigger than even the shows in Philadelphia and Boston at that time. This rare archival footage provides some sense of the impressive quality of this Show held more than 50 years ago. This show ceased production in the 1970s when it lost its venue in Oakland. There is a grand tradition of world-class flower shows in the Bay area. The present San Francisco Flower & Garden Show represents the proud continuation of this tradition.
